Kanyakumari

During my stay in Kerala, I got a call from Vinod, a really nice bloke I’d met at Vassai Fort. We shared may interests around bikes and travel. He invited me to meet his parents and do some touring around India’s Southern tip. What better offer could you ever get?

General, Non-A/C
Very good design trains
Backrest lifts up, supports by chains to make sleeper

Railway workers work bloody hard! In the heat and humidity, you just can’t reduce body heat. Walking 1km with a pack, you understand.

Vinod picked me up from the Station and on the way back, suggested we stop for a drink. Ever heard of a Chilled or Ice Apple? Me neither! They looked like a coconut, so my enthusiasm was a little below par until I tasted it

Absolutely delicious! Served in a Banana leaf. If ever you get the chance, try one.

From there, we headed to Vinod’s parent’s house to experience absolute Indian hospitality. His parents were the nicest people you’d ever wish to meet. The food and drink flowed to the point, I had to roll ot the door!

Shopping in Thuckalay was a treat. Watching Vinod ride the Royal Enfield with his Mum seated side-saddle to and from the market was a real treat. She looked totally at home as Vinod zipped in and out of the traffic.

The next few days, we toured places like Padmanabhapuram Palace, Mathur aqueduct, Mahatma Ghandi memorial, Thanumalayan temple, Vivekananda Rock & Thiruvalluvar Statue then Vattakottai Fort

The next day, Vinod & I took of to See Kanyakumari on the trusty Royal Enfield. Below are a few shots of the trip down there

Nice little stop along the way
