Mathur (Mathoor) aquaduct is a magnificent structure in Thiruvattar taluk of Kanniyakumari district of Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was built in 1966 over the Pahrali River and takes its name from Mathoor, a hamlet near the aqueduct, which is about 3 km from Thiruvattar town and about 60 km from Kanniyakumari.
Mathoor Aqueduct was constructed in 1966 as a drought relief measure over the river Pahrali to carry water for irrigation from an elevated level of one hill to another. The irrigation water feeds the taluks of Vilavancode and Kalkulam.
Given we were out there late and racing daylight

During the course of the day, I lost a hearing aid out here. Combined with the fact I wanted better photos in daylight, I decided on a return trip first thing in the morning. Vinod was busy with his parents so I caught the bus.

Down the bottom, I met some young lads, all having fun. After a whole buch of chit-chat, they decided they wanted to dance with me

Sadly, after searching the entire area using the “Find My Hearing Aids” function, nothing was found. The goods and trinket sellers in the carpark were even helping look. They got the message accross, the entire area was swept first thing in the morning and they swept up what appeared to be the crushed remains of something that looked like the right one I was showing them. They then gestured throwing the sweepings over the fence, when I looked it was a drop of about 10-15 meters with no way of climbing down there. That really hurt. Thereplacement cost me 48,000 Rupee, which is about AUD$928.00. Ironically, in Australia, the same make and model sells for around AUD$2,200.00. I’ve always said we’re getting screwed on everything in Australia!
