No matter how hard I try, I just cannot imagine trying to construct a monolith as huge as this. Just haling the materials to build a single column is very difficult with the horse or bullock & cart technology of the era. The manpower to load and unload the carts in a humidity ranging fron 60% to 85%. Imagine then, digging the foundation, just for that single column, sweat in your eyes, continuously. You can bet the clergy weren’t in the hole.
